All the Single Babies

(Well if you like her then you should put some clothes on her!)

So, I just saw the video of the seven year old girls dancing to Beyonce's 'Single Ladies'. You probably won't be shocked that I find it repulsive. Seven year olds dancing: fine. Dancing to a song they don't understand the meaning of: maybe. But hardcore gyrating in two piece can-can outfits: no thank you! Of all the talents I'm sure my daughter will someone day display I will be OKAY if she never masters using her own leg as a stripper pole on stage. At age seven, no less.

When I saw the video of these little girls I could just picture the failed NFL cheerleader who is their dance coach. I imagine her as Earl Hickey's ex-wife Joy from My Name Is Earl.

"Come on, y'all! How do you expect to get married in a couple years with moves like that? Splay them legs, girls! Gyrate like you mean it!"

I don't see anything positive to be gained from sexualizing little girls. Maybe I'm just old and uptight. You be the judge. What do you think?

... in a big way.

Unless they're in stripper training, that dance is way too mature.

This is pretty creepy.

Oh sweet lord! If I hadn't known in advance that they were seven, I don't think I would have guessed that these were CHILDREN dancing. Not okay, on so many levels.

That clip is no longer available. Hmm. Probably a good thing I didn't see it...

Off topic, but the picture of Joy reminded me of one of my favorite lines from her. She was going to attend art school and she told Earl and Randy something like this: When I'm in school you're going to have to take care of the kids. Then you'll be the ones having to listen to them cry in the middle of the night because they want more Mountain Dew in their bottles.
I know that isn't verbatim, but I couldn't find the exact quote. It's in the pilot episode. Still, it cracked me up. Especially since I remember drinking mountain dew when I was still in diapers. Which must mean I was late to join the ranks of the potty-trained. : )
