I've had these a long time and they've never done this before. Pretty weird. I Googled and found that this is what they look like when they bloom. Hmm. I did not know that. Thanks, Google!

Of course, to REALLY get the farm effect, they should be planted in old, no longer used work boots. Don't ask me why; I guess it adds to the whimsy of them :0)
We call those "hens and bitties" - I've never seen one do that either.
My advice is to run before your house is overtaken by plants, Troll style.
Mine have never done that before either. They are slowly building an army along the sidewalk to my front door. I hope they win the battle against the weeds, then we won't have to use the weedwhacker on that part of the lawn. :)
